Dairy Co-Op That Failed Owed Bank Pounds 59m
THE failed co-operative Dairy Farmers of Britain collapsed owing pounds 59m to HSBC, partly because its cheese factory at Llandyrnog was forced to sell large cheese stocks at a loss. IT'S suddenly hit me: autumn is on the way. We've reached September, the days are getting shorter, the weather is getting progressively more miserable and everything in the garden is looking tired and jaded. Every day I check to see whether the swallows and house martins are still around. When they've packed their bags, I'll know that's that. What's more, the agricultural show scene is coming to an end, which means my new-found social life will soon be mothballed and stored away until way int...

Reacting to claims by Defra officials that the industry is finding it hard to agree, Mr Dodds said the problems stemmed from Defra's initial misinterpretation of the EC regulation and its refusal to consider tagging options first proposed by the LAA last year.

Martletwy Officials Decide the Show Must Go On Despite the Deluge
MONTHS and months of groundwork have to go into preparing for any outdoor event and everything, after all the 't's have been crossed and the 'i's dotted, rests upon the weather being kind on the day. The 58th Martletwy Show day dawned to reveal that the normally excellent site at The Downs had been saturated by hours of overnight rain and it was still raining - heavily... very heavily. The general feeling was "what a day" but all praise to the show organisers and YFC committee for going ahead...

Launching the country's first food security assessment, Mr Benn said there were three big challenges that needed to be met: how to meet the economic and environmental challenges of increased productivity in the food chain; how to help people eat more healthily and ...
