Can Post-16 Education Improve On School Sixth Forms?

The area has some of the poorest academic standards in Wales, and education chiefs are striving to improve facilities available to students.

Education Minister Leighton Andrews is likely to have the final say on Merthyr Tydfil's proposed new pounds 33m tertiary college, while consultation is currently under way in Blaenau Gwent.

If permission is granted, sixth-form provision will be scrapped in favour of a multi-million-pound learning zone in Ebbw Vale.
