SIR - Three years ago the financial system virtually collapsed, due largely to the insatiable greed of the financial institutions in the City of London. At the time politicians mouthed platitudes about ensuring that such a disaster could never happen again.

We are still paying the price of that disaster. But the City of London still pays stratospheric salaries and bonuses, and takes enormous risks with our money.
