WHAT IS ELECTRIFICATION? It is the installation of continuous infrastructure, usually in the form of a cable above the tracks, from which trains draw power on the move.

Electric trains don't carry their fuel supply with them, as we do in our cars, so they're lighter than diesels. However, as the line won't be electric all the way to Swansea, trains that go there will be bi-mode - running on diesel and electric.
