SIR - I just wanted to point out to certain sections of the population that the fiscal deficit was out of control long before the financial meltdown therefore cannot be blamed upon bankers - it is dishonest to do so.
As a country, we were spending over and above what we were earning at the height of an economic "bubble". A bit like having a temporary promotion and going out and buying an expensive house on the back of it and then being surprised that you can't afford it when you return to your normal job!
