Culture Minister Alun Pugh suffered an embarrassing rebuff yesterday when a review he ordered declared he should drop his controversial arts policy. Plans by Mr Pugh to directly fund Wales' six biggest arts companies spectacularly backfired when an independent review said the organisations, including Welsh National Opera, should continue to be funded 'at arms length' by the Arts Council of Wales.
It said Mr Pugh could instead chair a top-level strategy board which should be launched to set policy for publicly-funded arts.See the full content of this document
