Sir - Further to the article by Sally Williams in Education Wales (Western Mail, March 16), there are number of issues on which I need to comment. First, I need to assure your readers that the Welsh Assembly Government is totally committed to improve the health of children and young people in Wales by taking a whole-school approach to food and nutrition.

Last year, with agreement from Cabinet colleagues, we set up the Food in Schools Working Group, to examine how to improve the quality and nutritional standards of school meals, and how to ensure a consistent and coherent approach to driving forward improvements in food and nutrition in our schools. This applies not only to school lunches but to all food provided to our children during the course of the school day.
