The Assembly Government has been accused of downgrading its commitment to racial equality following the lengthy absence from work of a senior civil servant.

Naz Malik, director of Awema, the All Wales Ethnic Minority Association, said he was seriously concerned that the Assembly's Equality Policy Unit (EPU) had been left effectively without a leader for nine months.
