SIR - Fiona Lewis (Letters, Jan 18) suggests that asylum-seekers could be deported to "one of the countries they passed through on the way". I would like to suggest that this is an unrealistic solution.
It is by no means certain that there would be agreement from such countries, so there could be a long, grim waiting period which would be neither fair to the person seeking sanctuary or to our own legal system. Proof would have to be shown that they passed through that neighbouring country, but the escape would probably have been very secret.See the full content of this document
