A RADICAL reassessment of funding arrangements for schools catering for large numbers of pupils on free school meals is needed, according to a prominent head teacher.

Sir William Atkinson, who was knighted for his services to education and community relations last year, stressed the importance of closing the attainment gap between pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds and their better-off peers at the General Teaching Council for Wales' annual lecture.
