SIR - In discussing the implications of Westminster's austerity drive for Wales ("Cuts and squeezes", Business in Wales Magazine, June 9), Professor Foreman-Peck claims that "when English public spending was booming so was the Welsh Assembly Government's budget".

What he omits to say is that analysis of Treasury figures by the Holtham Commission showed that between 1999-2000 and 2010-11 Wales' relative expenditure per head on programmes covered by the Barnett formula declined from 125% to 112% of the corresponding level in England.
