Bbc staff are to decide whether to strike following the announcement that more than 3,000 jobs are to be lost across the UK, including around 200 in Wales. Jeremy Dear, general secretary of the National Union of Journalists, was at Broad- casting House in Cardiff yesterday to meet staff, who have just received their ballot forms.

He believes that when the ballot closes on May 11, the papers will reveal strong support for a strike.
