As yet another study decries the environmental impact of excess packaging, reporter Sarah Miloudi takes a tongue-in-cheek stand in praise of packaging WHEN I go shopping I expect to be able to do it in style and, as every woman knows, flaunting an over-sized, extra- thick expensive carrier bag filled with purchases, all of which have been lavishly wrapped in tissue paper, is an essential part of the experience. It's the same with my other buys.

Admittedly, it's all part of a wasteful practice that contributes to six million tonnes of landfill rubbish every year. And, as a study has shown, packaging for beauty products can cost up to three times as much to make as the contents.
