Boxing Legend Fights for Local Gym

Summary

Welsh boxing legend Colin Jones is fighting to save the gym where he threw his first punch. Penyrheol Amateur Boxing Club near Swansea where Colin now coaches is hoping to raise funds to extend the building. And the boxing club is also seeking to renew its lease on the building at a meeting with Swansea Council this morning. Former British, European and Commonwealth welterweight champion Colin Jones fought three times for a world title in the early 1980s, including two fights against US 'wonder kid' Milton McCrory and one against Don Curry.

The clubhouse dates back to 1954 and Colin Jones believes it is vital in giving local children something to do in the evenings.
