BUYING a smallholding can signal a massive lifestyle change. Once the initial excitement of being a landowner has subsided, it doesn't take long before your mind turns to what you're going to do with your land, and for most of us that means acquiring our first livestock.

I started with hens, progressed to turkeys and ducks, and then got my first four-legged animals-goats. But it wasn't until I got into pigs that I realized where my big fascination lay. I love pigs. More than any other animal, they are a constant source of interest and entertainment and I just really enjoy being around them.
