SIR - I can only assume that the journalist who wrote 'How almost half of every pounds 100 you earn goes to the taxman' (Western Mail, March 14) hasn't taken a course in basic economics.
What Professor Minford finds is 'the marginal' tax rate - how much tax you would pay for an extra pounds 100 of income on top of your current income. The average tax rate - ie what you pay on your current income - is considerably less for the average taxpayer.See the full content of this document
