Summary

THE Church Village bypass is progressing well and remains on target to be opened in the autumn of 2010. The 7.5km single lane carriageway will run from Tonteg in the east to Cross Inn in the west, providing much sought after relief to the A473 corridor through Llantwit Fardre and Church Village. The design of the new road includes four strategically placed roundabouts with links to the local road network. The approaches to the roundabouts will be widened to two lanes to assist with the free flow of traffic and access links are included for country lanes, farms and footpaths.

In addition, the road will be widened with a crawler lane on the western approach to the Gwaun Meigyn roundabout for slow moving traffic. A community route on the northern side of the bypass, three metres wide, will provide facilities for pedestrians and cyclists covering the full length of the scheme and linking to the local network at appropriate locations.
