Sainsbury's rejected royal carrots grown at the Prince of Wales's organic farm because they were "rotten", it emerged yesterday. The supermarket giant said the quality of Duchy carrots from Highgrove had "deteriorated" after being stored over the winter.

It also rejected organic carrots supplied by Soil Association director Patrick Holden's Welsh farm near Lampeter, for the same reason.
