Unfortunately, because of a prior engagement, I was unable to attend a public meeting at Ysgol Gynradd, Carno, last week to discuss its proposed closure. On behalf of the FUW, however, I wrote to express our full support efforts to prevent its demise.

Ysgol Gynradd Carno and five other Powys schools - Howey Church in Wales; Llangurig CP School; Llanfihangel Yng Ngwynfa Church in Wales School; Ysgol Efyrnwy, Llanwddyn; and Ysgol Thomas Stephens, Pontneathvaughan - are at risk of closure as part of radical plans to 'modernise' the county's schools network.
