CASSIUS Clay was stripped of his title today by the influential New York State Athletic Commission and the World Boxing Association for his refusal to enter army service. The British Boxing Board of Control is expected to support their action.
The Board's secretary, Mr Terry Waltham, said last night, "I am sure that if the champion goes to prison we will make a recommendation to the World Boxing Council that Clay's title be taken away." The commission said that Clay's "refusal to enter the service is regarded to be detrimental of the best interests of boxing".See the full content of this document
