Summary
First minister Rhodri Morgan will visit Celsa Steel's UK works in Cardiff today to see its recently upgraded meltshop, which has taken steel production capacity up to 800,000 tonnes a year. Celsa acquired the former Allied Steel & Wire Tremorfa operation in January last year and now directly and indirectly provides employment for around 700 people. Grupo Celsa chairman Francisco Rubiralta will show the First Minister improvements to the Cardiff Plant, including new machinery that enables the steel mills to produce high-value and thicker-coiled steel aimed at the high quality end of the rod and bar market.
On top of the pounds 40m it has already invested at Cardiff, Celsa now plans to build an all-new pounds 70m Melt Shop that would increase steel-making capacity to 1.2 million tonnes a year by 2006. This will be the UK's first brand new melt shop for more than 20 years.See the full content of this document
