An american-born grandfather is enjoying the benefits of full UK citizenship for the first time, despite living in Cardiff for 56 years. Terry Morris, a lorry driver, was almost deported in 2003 after applying for a British passport so that he could take his wife Anne on holiday abroad.

The 57-year-old, who opened the deportation letter on April Fool's Day and at first thought it was a joke, was born in Kentucky to a GI father and a Welsh mother.
