Conducting 'Messiah' Is Like Coming Home for Chorus Master

It's considered something of a musical institution for the festive period and Christmas wouldn't really be the same without it. Therefore, Welsh National Opera has decided to stage a performance of Handel's much-loved Messiah this week. The masterpiece will be performed by the WNO's orchestra and chorus, to the great excitement of chorus-master Donald Nally.

'Conducting this piece is like coming home for me,' said Mr Nally, who will have been chorus- master at the WNO for two years in January. 'One of the most exciting things about the Messiah is the fact that it has this iconic status. I absolutely love conducting it.' The work, which includes the world famous 'Hallelujah Chorus', has become a firm festive favourite since its creation more than 250 years ago and members of the WNO chorus have delighted in rehearsing it.
