Although more than 70% of 16-year-olds in South-East Wales continue in full-time education after their examinations, there is still a significant number of young people at 16, 17 and 18 years of age who decide to look for suitable employment or work-based training rather than continue with full-time education.

Young people leave full-time education for a variety of reasons. Many have excellent qualifications including GCSEs, AS-levels, A- levels, BTecs or equivalent, together with good interpersonal skills.
