Plans for a new stadium for Liverpool FC moved a step closer yesterday after they were given the go-ahead by planning officials. Proposals for the 60,000-seater ground were given the green light following an eight-hour meeting at Liverpool Town Hall.

The current Anfield stadium site will be demolished and transformed into a European-style plaza surrounded by apartments, offices, bars and restaurants.
