The imbalance of the UK economy is graphically illustrated in a new report from think tank Reform. Called Whitehall's last colonies, it highlights what an increasing number of economists have been thinking about, with a widening of the prosperity gap between Wales and other regions of the UK.

It shows that regional economic performance has become increasingly imbalanced over the past 10 years between dynamic regions such as the South East of England and the rest of the economy.
