Summary

The anguished parents of schoolboy Damilola Taylor were coming to terms with the prospect of a third trial last night after two brothers were cleared of his murder. Richard and Gloria Taylor were said to be in shock after a jury found the teenagers not guilty of murdering their 10-year-old son. But the brothers, aged 17 and 18, who cannot be named for legal reasons, could be retried after jurors were unable to reach verdicts on manslaughter. Police and prosecutors are understood to be meeting the Director of Public Prosecutions Ken Macdonald QC today to decide what happens.

The brothers, who were 12 and 13 when Damilola died in November 2000, were remanded in custody to tomorrow when the Old Bailey will be told the outcome.
