A motorist who crashed into a stationary car on a Dutch motorway, killing three Welshmen, said he was unaware he had arrived at the scene of an accident until his airbag inflated. A statement from Jose Lois de Quintas read to an inquest yesterday said he had seen flashing lights ahead of him, but did not realise that they were signalling that cars were standing still. The 47-year-old Portuguese national, who will stand trial next month in Holland, is accused of causing the fatal accident.
