A breakthrough in encryption technology has been staged by a team inside the EADS Defence & Security Systems operation in Newport. The Ectocryp system - devised by fewer than 30 people working over the past 2 years - will allow Government ministers and military commanders to have real-time conversations with officers in war- zones with complete confidence their conversations will not be overhead.

Its makers believe it offers radical improvements on previous systems and offers efficiency savings worth 'hundreds of millions' of pounds.
