Few people will envy Alan Murray the challenge he has of improving the ambulance service in Wales. The failed targets for response times speak for themselves, and the fact that his two immediate predecessors resigned within weeks of taking the job indicates the level of difficulty.

But based on the interview he gave us yesterday, there are very encouraging signs that if anyone can restore this failing service, it is Mr Murray.
