The 59th Oxford Farming Conference last week looked at an industry facing some of its biggest ever changes. Two leading politicians used their speeches to deliver some tough, if different, messages CONSERVATIVE leader Michael Howard acknowledged farmers were a 'forgotten majority' as he called for an end to farm subsidies.

He told the 59th Oxford Farming Conference that Western trade tariffs and farm subsidies were indefensible and sapped billions of pounds a year from the economies of developing countries.
