As Ireland prepares to mark the first anniversary of its workplace ban on smoking, talks are continuing to decide whether similar restrictions should apply to Wales. As part of a Health Wales special, we asked smokers, non-smokers and lobby groups whether a ban would be right for Wales Hardly a day goes by these days without the question of smoking in public places raising its head.

During the past few months public opinion appears to be significantly shifting, with the majority in Wales now wanting firm action.

Indeed, a recent Ash/Mori survey on public attitudes to passive smoking showed overwhelming public support in Wales, with 78% of those polled supporting a law to ensure that all enclosed workplaces must be smoke-free.
