THE BBC licence fee has been "stretched" by the Government giving the Corporation extra responsibilities, Director General Mark Thompson said yesterday.
He said the recent settlement which froze the annual licence fee at pounds 145.50 for six years in return for the BBC taking responsibility for funding the World Service , previously paid for by the Foreign Office, should be the "high water mark" of this approach.See the full content of this document
