The perks of being Poet Laureate - pounds 500 per annum plus 500 bottles of sherry - are far outweighed by the pains. Pity poor Andrew Motion who has to compose a celebratory ode for the wedding of Prince Charles and his long-time lover. Before he even picks a poetic path through the sensitivities of the situation, there are the practical considerations. What rhymes with Camilla apart from Polyfilla? (Better not go there...) But it can't be that difficult to pen a little ditty for the big day can it:
