Summary
LAST winter was the coldest for 31 years with temperatures falling to -16C. But the four coldest winters in Wales and the UK of the last century were, in order of chilliness: 1963, 1947, 1940 and 1979.
1963 had the distinction of being the coldest winter for more than 200 years at the time - cold enough for the sea to freeze, and blizzards buried parts of Wales in snowdrifts six metres deep, blocked roads and railways and turned villages into isolated islands.See the full content of this document
