Plans to reform political party funding are being drawn up, the Government said last night in the wake of the "donorgate" affair. The Government has been struggling to shake off the scandal of pounds 650,000 given to Labour coffers from property developer David Abrahams, who used third parties to channel the money - a breach of electoral law.

Meanwhile, Welsh Secretary Peter Hain is also under pressure for failing to declare donations to his deputy leadership campaign this summer.
