Seve ballesteros showed Welsh golf fans his genius and the determination to secure his only Tour victory in Wales, leaving his final opponent needing to sink a four iron for a half on the first. The Spaniard retired from all golf this week after winning 87 tournaments all over the world, including five majors, and put Wales on that list in 1989 at the Epson Grand Prix in St Pierre.

He beat Denis Durnian in the final of the matchplay event - now the Englishman just regrets that this week's announcement means the two will not cross swords again on the Seniors Tour in Wales and hopes 50-year-old Ballesteros will reconsider his retirement in a year or two.
