THE United Nations body responsible for conferring World Heritage status is investigating complaints that buildings on a Welsh heritage site are falling into disrepair.

The pioneering iron town of Blaenavon in Torfaen was admitted to the list of World Heritage sites by United Nations body Unesco in 2000. Last year First Minister Rhodri Morgan opened the UK's first dedicated World Heritage visitor centre in Blaenavon.
