THE Food Standards Agency has confirmed that a proposed 4% increase in meat hygiene charges in abattoirs will not go ahead this autumn. The decision follows pressure from the farming and food industries.
But a new system of calculating charges for official controls in meat plants will go ahead in September following agreement by ministers in all four UK countries.
