FREED journalist Alan Johnston last night vowed to stay out of trouble as he thanked thousands of people for their support during his 114-day ordeal in captivity.

Speaking to hundreds of BBC staff at Television Centre in London via a live link-up from Jerusalem he said he would be grateful for the rest of his life.

Mr Johnston added, The whole Johnston family is about to go back to the obscurity in which it was extremely happy for about 45 years.

The BBC correspondent, who studied journalism at Cardiff University, was held captive in Gaza by a group calling itself the Army of Islam. He was freed early yesterday morning after an international campaign for his release.
