MEDIA tycoon Sir Anthony O'Reilly is standing down as chief executive of one of the world's leading international newspaper groups after a career spanning more than three decades.

The Independent News and Media boss will retire on his 73rd birthday in May and will be succeeded by his son Gavin who has been appointed chief executive designate.
