Christian malcolm, one of Great Britain's best medal hopes at the European Championships, will miss Gothenburg after being ruled out of action for six weeks. The 27-year-old has confirmed the hamstring injury he suffered in the European trials in Manchester two weeks ago will force him to miss the Europeans and add to his recent injury woes. Malcolm, Europe's second-fastest 200m runner this season, saw his preparations before the 2004 Olympics in Athens seriously hampered by kidney failure.

He then under-performed at last year's World Championships in Helsinki due to a pelvic injury and his Commonwealth Games in Melbourne earlier this year were cut short by a hamstring tear.
