An independent investigation is under way after a police prisoner needed treatment in hospital. The 41-year-old man needed medical attention after being detained at a police custody unit in Cardiff. The decision to hold an independent investigation follows two recent incidents involving the deaths of people who had been detained by the police at custody units in Cardiff.

Independent Police Complaints Commissioner Tom Davies said, 'The IPCC have received a number of referrals from South Wales Police which have involved serious illness and death in police custody.
