It is going to be a white Christmas - whatever the weather, it was predicted yesterday. Around 60% of us will drink white wine with our turkey, predicted high street wine shop Threshers. But for the rest of the year, the nation narrowly prefers red wine to white, their study of UK wine drinking showed. The chain's study of 2,000 adults claimed that wine is now Britain's national drink. Six out of 10 people said that wine is always their first choice of alcoholic drink - whether at home or at a bar or restaurant.
