Fears over future of regional programming THE departure of ITV Wales managing director Roger Lewis to the Welsh Rugby Union has raised fresh concerns about whether the station has a long-term future. Despite a bullish statement from the company last night confirming that it will definitely be appointing a new top executive for Wales, many working for the channel believe the London-based bosses of ITV plc cannot wait to scrap what they see as expensive regional programming.

In reality, it seems there is disagreement between those at board level who want to get rid of separate programming for Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and English regions as quickly as possible, and those who believe it is in ITVs own best interests to retain an element of national and regional diversity.
