I'D READ a couple of collaborative novels by Irish authors and the medium appealed to me. The children also used to enjoy watching TV programmes about strong men and strong women competitions when they were younger and I started wondering what would motivate a woman to subject herself to such a rigorous discipline - especially since my attempts at keeping fit rarely go any further than struggling to open a pack of chocolate biscuits!

So, one day when I should have been concentrating on other things, both elements came together and the idea for the novel Nerth Bon Braich was hatched.
