WHEN I published my first Welsh language novel, Ffreshars in September 2008, I was taken aback at the reaction from some members of the more conservative Welsh language press.

The novel, which follows the adventures of three young Freshers during their first tumultuous year at University of Wales, Aberystwyth, in the early '90s, was warmly received by the majority, but some eyebrows were raised at its 'OTT' portrayal of student life.
