THE importers of a new low alcohol wine failed yesterday in a High Court claim that the Food Standards Agency was guilty of "heavy- handed abuse of power" by banning the drink from sale as "wine" under EU regulations.
Lawyers for Sovio Wines had told a judge in London that the official ban on its semi-sparkling Spanish white and rose with an alcohol content of just 8% - the EU says a drink must be at least 9% to be labelled and marketed as wine - had "paralysed" the company's business at a time when the Government was urging people to drink sensibly.See the full content of this document
