WHILE the news that Tiger Woods will be coming to the Celtic Manor this October has been greeted in some quarters with the kind of reverence usually accorded to a state visit, his inclusion begs the question: what sort of reception will he get from the predominantly Welsh crowd? If it is in line with the remarks of resort owner Sir Terry Matthews, then we may as well roll out the red carpet now.

"Personally, I am delighted that Tiger Woods, the world's No 1 golfer, has been selected to play," cooed Sir Terry when Corey Pavin announced his four picks on Tuesday. "It was always our hope that the world's very best golfers would come to Celtic Manor and there is no doubt that Tiger Woods has been the world's standout player for the 10 years we have been planning for this Ryder Cup."
