Labour Loser Says No to Blaenau

Summary


The candidate who failed to win back Blaenau Gwent for Labour in last year's by-election does not want another crack at the seat, it has emerged. Owen Smith was chosen by local party members to fight the June 2006 by-election after the death of former Independent MP Peter Law.

Mr Law, who had represented the constituency at council and National Assembly level for three decades, quit Labour after the national executive committee imposed an all-women shortlist on the local party.
